BSK is an international optometric honor society with 80 years of service to the profession of optometry. It has a twofold mission: 1) to promote and recognize academic excellence among optometry students and 2) to stimulate scientific attainment by funding optometry student research grants.

BSK Student Chapters currently exist at all optometry schools in the U.S., Puerto Rico and Canada. Chapters perform a variety of functions, including community service projects, tutoring, and student and faculty recognition.

Membership is based on scholastic excellence determined by academic grade point average or equivalent. Upon graduation, noteworthy practitioners who have made a distinct, signal contribution(s) to the profession are invited to join.
