Applying for BSK Grants

The Beta Sigma Kappa (BSK) Student Research Grant Program continues for more than 75 years as the only source of research funding dollars provided solely to students at accredited schools or colleges of optometry in the United States and Canada. This program’s funding has benefited hundreds of optometry students whose academic curiosity led them to seek answers to a vast variety of professionally-based questions covering a wide area of vision science and clinical practice. We encourage all optometry students to apply for BSK research grant funding in support of your planned project.

Applications and guidelines are available from the BSK Faculty Advisor at your school or college of optometry. Once completed, the application should be mailed to Todd Fleischer, BSK Executive Director, PO Box 5886, Topeka, KS 66605. (In the event that the materials need to be shipped through a courier such as UPS or FedEx, please use the following street address: 4311 SE Illinois Avenue, Topeka, KS 66609.) Applications may also be sent electronically in a pdf format to bsktodd@sbcglobal.net. All optometry students, irrespective of membership in BSK, are eligible to apply for research grants from BSK.

Currently, the maximum grant award is $1,000.00. In addition, the researchers or teams with the two best completed research projects, ready for publication, each receive an award of an additional $1,000.00.

The deadline for receipt by the BSK Executive Office of completed applications for student research grants is 5:00pm (CST) April 12, 2010. (The deadline is April 10, but since this is a Saturday, students may submit the applications through Monday, April 12). Applications received after that date cannot be accepted. After review by the BSK Board of Regents, the BSK Central World Council will select the grant recipients and award funding by the beginning of July.
